62-year-old country music star Brooks accused of sexual assault by makeup artist

Country music icon Garth Brooks is currently facing a sexual assault lawsuit filed by a woman who identifies herself as his makeup artist. The lawsuit, submitted under a pseudonym to the Los Angeles Superior Court on October 3, alleges that Brooks raped her in a hotel room in Los Angeles in 2019. Brooks has firmly denied these allegations in a public statement and previously initiated a preemptive lawsuit last month in an effort to prevent the case from advancing to court.

The woman, who has worked for Brooks’ wife, fellow country singer Trisha Yearwood, since 1999 and began doing makeup for Brooks in 2017, claims that the incident occurred during a work trip to Los Angeles.

In October 2019, Brooks traveled to Los Angeles from Nashville to perform at the Grammy Awards alongside soul singer Sam Moore. According to the plaintiff, upon their arrival via private jet, Brooks reserved a single hotel suite for both of them. She alleges that Brooks appeared naked at the bedroom door, assaulted her, and then instructed her to prepare his hair and makeup as if no incident had taken place.

Moreover, the lawsuit states that in early 2019, while at Brooks’ home, he exposed himself to her, grabbing her hand and placing it on his genitals. She claims he often unveiled himself, discussed sexual fantasies, and sent her explicit texts. The plaintiff argues that due to financial hardships, she felt pressured to continue her employment with Brooks, who she believes exploited her vulnerability.

Now 62 years old, Brooks filed a preemptive lawsuit in September in federal court in Mississippi, asserting that he first learned of these “completely false” claims in July. He contends that the woman has threatened him, claiming she would pursue legal action unless he paid her millions. He is seeking a court order to prevent what he describes as intentional infliction of emotional distress, defamation, and invasion of privacy based on false information.

In his statement, Brooks expressed his discontent with the ongoing threats, asserting, “For the past two months, I’ve been troubled by threats and lies. The other party claims that if I don’t write a check for millions, things will get very bad for me. It feels like a loaded gun is being waved in front of me.” He emphasized his faith in the justice system and his assurance in the truth, declaring, “I am not the person being depicted in this story.”

Originating from Oklahoma, Brooks emerged as a dominant force in country music throughout the 1990s and married Yearwood in 2005.
