Experts and scholars gathered in Hangzhou to explore the international spread of Zhang Taiyan’s academic thoughts

On October 19th, the Second Small Academic Workshop of the Zhang Taiyan Research Center and the inaugural exchange meeting for the journal “Studies on Zhang Taiyan” opened at the Zhang Taiyan Memorial Museum in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. This event brought together members of the academic committee from over ten universities across China, as well as descendants of the Zhang family, to delve into Zhang Taiyan’s academic thoughts and discuss the inheritance and development of Chinese culture.

Zhang Taiyan, hailing from Yuhang, Hangzhou, is recognized as a pioneer of modern democratic revolution in China, as well as a profound thinker and master of Chinese studies. In recent years, Yuhang has been actively advancing the construction of a new cultural center, aiming to inherit and promote Zhang Taiyan’s academic spirit.

“Zhang Taiyan belongs to China, but he is also a figure of global significance,” stated Zhang Minglai, a descendant of Zhang Taiyan. “Recently, the study of ‘Zhangxue’ has reached a new peak, and the scholarship and ethics of Zhang Taiyan have been positively promoted.”

A relevant official from the Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau commented that the Zhang Taiyan Memorial Museum has successfully compiled the “Complete Works of Zhang Taiyan,” completed renovation and expansion projects for the memorial, established the Zhang Taiyan Research Center, and hosted multiple academic seminars. These initiatives have greatly contributed to the in-depth development of “Zhangxue” research.

Sun Yu, deputy editor-in-chief of Shanghai People’s Publishing House, expressed appreciation for the support of Zhang Taiyan’s grandson, Zhang Nianchi, in collaborating with Yuhang to publish various works, including “Studies on Zhang Taiyan,” the “Dahan Series,” and “Essays on Zhangxue.”

“The publishing house will continue to dedicate efforts to the research and dissemination of Zhang Taiyan’s academic thoughts. By releasing high-quality academic works, we aim to internationalize ‘Zhangxue’ and make it known worldwide,” said Sun.

Since 2023, the Zhang Taiyan Research Center has been actively overseeing the “Dahan Series” and launched “Studies on Zhang Taiyan,” aiming to promote “Zhangxue” research. This series of actions not only deepens the understanding of Zhang Taiyan’s thoughts and contributions but also provides a valuable platform for scholars in related fields to engage in dialogue, attracting significant attention from academia both domestically and internationally.

After the opening ceremony, attendees visited the Zhang Taiyan Memorial Museum for a group photo. During the academic exchange segment, participants discussed Zhang Taiyan’s academic thoughts and their influence on modern civilization.
