-Block Train + Cold Chain- Jiangxi Nanchang International Dry Port continues to expand new cold chain import channels

On an autumn afternoon, at the Nanchang International Land Port’s Cold Chain Logistics Base, workers efficiently unload goods inside Warehouse No. 6, with some operating forklifts and others pushing flatbed carts.

“The six containers of cold chain fresh produce that we just received include durian, salmon, squid, and beef, with a total value exceeding 4 million yuan. These goods originated from Thailand and arrived here via Xiamen Port, cutting transport time by nearly two days compared to traditional methods, significantly reducing costs as well,” said Nie Yanyan, the deputy general manager of the cold chain logistics base. She added that the cold chain sea-rail intermodal trains have now become a regular service, bringing different fresh products into the logistics hub each week.

The Nanchang International Land Port, located in Xiangtan Town, Nanchang County, officially started operations in January this year, aiming to support the new “train + cold chain” business model. Covering an area of 200 acres, with a construction area of 150,000 square meters—including a 70,000-square-meter cold storage facility—it serves multiple functions, including cold storage and trade.

“The cold storage areas here utilize full temperature-variable technology, allowing for graded control in cooling, which meets the diverse storage needs for various cold chain products,” Nie explained. Currently, the base dispatches over 3,000 tons of fresh produce, vegetables, and fruits daily to locations in Hunan, Hubei, Anhui, and beyond.

At the processing workshop of Jiangxi Liuyiliu Agricultural Technology Development Co., Ltd., located within the logistics base, staff members are busy preserving recently arrived fresh imported durians.

“The first train carrying imported durians to the Nanchang International Land Port was in collaboration with our company. The cold chain logistics base’s proximity to the land port and its well-developed logistics network perfectly align with our trade needs for durians. Today, we process nearly 32 tons of durians each day, and as orders continue to increase, rail transport proves to be even more advantageous,” stated Hu Dejin, the chairman of Jiangxi Liuyiliu Agricultural Technology Development Co., Ltd.

From establishing external channels to becoming a vital “gateway to the sea” for Jiangxi Province, the Nanchang International Land Port has grown significantly, now operating 12 direct international train routes to countries such as the Netherlands, Vietnam, and Russia, as well as 12 sea-rail intermodal freight trains to ports in Shenzhen, Fujian, and Guangzhou, covering over 50 countries and regions worldwide.
