92 people still missing in North Carolina after Hurricane Helene

According to a report from NBC on October 16, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper announced that since Hurricane Helene swept through the state nearly three weeks ago, at least 92 people have been reported missing.

During a press conference held on October 15, in conjunction with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Cooper emphasized that the number of missing persons is not definitive, as state task forces continue their efforts. “I want to remind everyone that 92 is not a precise number, as the state work group is still actively engaged,” Cooper stated. “With more reports coming in, we expect the number of missing individuals may continue to fluctuate.”

The report also highlights that Hurricane Helene has resulted in at least 118 fatalities in North Carolina alone. The Category 4 hurricane made landfall in Florida on September 26, before moving through Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, and other areas. Overall, Hurricane Helene has claimed more than 230 lives.
