By hannover-web.com On October 18, a launch event for the global media initiative “Hello Greater Bay Area” took place at the cultural office of the Chinese Embassy in the UK. This initiative is a collaborative effort between Guangdong Radio and Television and People’s Daily UK, introducing a five-part documentary series titled “Hello Greater Bay Area.”
From June to August of this year, Guangdong Radio and Television and People’s Daily UK hosted a large-scale media and cultural outreach project called “Hello Greater Bay Area.” Ten university students from prestigious institutions such as the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford, Imperial College London, London School of Economics, and the School of Oriental and African Studies traveled in groups to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. During their visits, they engaged in study activities alongside local students, gaining insights into Chinese culture through the lens of contemporary youth. The goal was to uncover the secrets to the high-quality development of the Greater Bay Area and to experience its vitality and charm, ultimately sharing richer stories from the Bay Area and China.
The documentary series released during the event consists of five episodes focused on “Technology,” “Intangible Cultural Heritage,” “Cuisine,” “Environment,” and “Education,” each lasting 15 minutes. These episodes will soon be aired on various channels of Guangdong Radio and Television and on international online platforms, with People’s Daily synchronously broadcasting them.
Since June, the filming process for “Hello Greater Bay Area” has yielded a series of engaging, high-quality original short videos that have sparked significant online interest. Over 30 articles released on the Guangdong Radio and Television and People’s Daily multimedia platforms have attracted more than 7.5 million views. Additionally, the UK students have shared several short videos on their social media, broadening the outreach of this initiative.
In his speech, Wang Yun, a counselor at the Chinese Embassy in the UK, emphasized that cultural exchanges between China and the UK require the collective participation of society, particularly the passion and strength of youth. He expressed hope that the release of the “Hello Greater Bay Area” documentary will inspire people from both countries to actively engage in cultural exchange and cooperation.
