By hannover-web.com On October 17th, we learned that the 2024 Jiangnan Folk Rap Exchange and the 14th Guandong (Qingyuan Lianan) “Pan Wang Festival – Yao Singing Hall” cultural arts event will take place from November 9th to 17th in Lianan Yao Autonomous County, Guangdong Province.
The Pan Wang Festival, also known as the Pan Wang Devolvement Festival, is a grand celebration for the Yao people to honor their ancestor Pan Wang and boasts over 1,700 years of history. Every year, around the 16th day of the 10th lunar month, the Yao community in Lianan hosts the lavish “Yao Singing Hall” event to commemorate this significant festival.
This festival encapsulates the essence of Yao culture, reflecting the people’s reverence for their ancestors and their aspirations for a better life. The annual Pan Wang Festival is not only a time for the Yao people to remember their ancestors and celebrate the harvest but also serves to promote Yao culture and foster a sense of national unity.
According to the organizers, this year’s event will revolve around the theme “Traveling with ‘Yao Dance Music'”, leveraging the global influence of the iconic piece to enhance the image of Lianan and stimulate cultural tourism consumption.
Visitors can look forward to an authentic Yao Singing Hall experience, performances of folk rap, and non-heritage parades. Additional activities will include Yao mountain bonfire parties, long table banquets featuring non-heritage dishes, and opportunities to explore Yao cuisine, marriage customs, long drum dances, embroidery, tie-dyeing, silver jewelry, as well as Yao medicine and bathing practices.
