On October 16, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held its regular press conference. A reporter asked about recent comments made by Yu Da-wei, the representative of the Democratic Progressive Party, in an interview with U.S. media. He stated that to alleviate delays in U.S. arms sales to Taiwan, discussions are underway regarding joint production and development of weapons, which could position Taiwan as part of the military supply chain for the U.S.
When asked for a comment on this matter, spokesperson Chen Bin-hua firmly opposed any form of military ties between the U.S. and Taiwan. He reiterated China’s strong opposition to U.S. arms sales to Taiwan and urged the U.S. to adhere to the One China principle and the three joint communiqués between China and the U.S. He called for an end to “arming Taiwan,” military cooperation with Taiwan, and encouraging separatist forces pushing for “Taiwan independence” through military means. Chen also issued a stern warning to the DPP authorities: regardless of Taiwan’s military strength or the amount of weaponry it acquires, any provocative actions in collaboration with external forces would ultimately lead to their own demise.
