On October 26, 2023, the “Joyful Run Autumn Challenge 2024” was held at Xiahe Wetland Park in Jinzhong, Shanxi Province. The event featured a 10.9 km health run and a 5 km fun run, attracting nearly 3,000 participants from across China.
I spoke with some of the event organizers and participants at the scene. The health run included competitors from 15 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions, including Hebei, Shandong, Xinjiang, and Ningxia, alongside runners from Jinzhong’s various city departments and county units.
After an impressive display of athleticism, Wu Mingyao from Xianyang, Shaanxi, clinched the men’s championship with a time of 33 minutes and 20 seconds, while Guo Liya from Jincheng, Shanxi, secured the women’s title at 38 minutes and 56 seconds.
This event was guided by the Shanxi Provincial Center for National Fitness, organized by the Jinzhong Municipal Federation of Trade Unions and the Jinzhong Sports Bureau, and supported by various local agencies, including the Jinzhong Sports Lottery Management Center and Kaermei (Shanxi).
Reflecting on the significance of the health run, local officials noted that this was an important sports gathering for Jinzhong following a series of major events this year, such as the 6th China Jinzhong International Tuohua Ball Competition and various sports competitions for seniors, students, and employees.
In recent years, Jinzhong has hosted a diverse range of sporting events, striving to enhance the quality and visibility of these competitions. The goal is to engage sports enthusiasts and promote the city’s cultural and tourism image, thereby fostering the sustainable development of public fitness initiatives in Jinzhong.
