During a routine press conference held on October 21, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin Jian, addressed a question regarding the ongoing energy crisis in Cuba. A reporter inquired about the impact of the U.S. blockade, which is one of the key factors contributing to this crisis and restricts Cuba’s access to oil resources.
In response, Lin stated, “The U.S. blockade against Cuba has inflicted significant harm on the country’s economic and social development as well as the livelihoods of its people. We urge the United States to fully lift the sanctions against Cuba as soon as possible, in accordance with the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter and basic norms of international law. This includes removing Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism. Such actions would align with the mutual interests of both the U.S. and Cuba and benefit regional stability and development. It also resonates with widespread calls from the international community.”
He emphasized the strong friendship and solidarity between China and Cuba, saying, “China and Cuba are good friends, comrades, and brothers. We empathize with the difficulties Cuba is currently facing. We firmly believe that under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba, the Cuban people will overcome these temporary challenges and continue to advance their socialist cause.”
