(Changes around us) Hangzhou, Zhejiang- Blind box concert staged by West Lake

On the evening of October 7th, the atmosphere along Hangzhou’s bustling Hubin Pedestrian Street was electric as the city unveiled its groundbreaking immersive naked-eye 4D art landmark, the “Xizi Langqiao” bridge. Ethereal music filled the air, drawing in crowds of captivated visitors.

As the LED screen lit up, a stunning display of lights synchronized with the enchanting melodies, creating a breathtaking audiovisual spectacle. This event marked the launch of the “Artistic Beauty Blind Box Concert,” a fresh cultural experience designed to engage the audience in a unique way.

The “Blind Box Concert” is a signature initiative from the Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Center, aimed at promoting the “Artistic Beauty” project. Breaking away from traditional concert formats, it combines music, drama, and performances in an engaging blind box style, providing audiences with the thrill and anticipation akin to unboxing a gift.

Launched in September 2022, the “Artistic Beauty” project seeks to bring the arts out from behind walls and into everyday life. The program regularly hosts performances in urban communities, commercial districts, parks, and scenic areas, transforming static art displays into vibrant and accessible cultural experiences for a wider audience. By the end of August this year, the province had successfully organized over 553,000 events.

“Entering our sixth season of the ‘Blind Box Concert,’ we’ve harnessed high-quality resources from our provincial public cultural communities to showcase a diverse range of art forms, including Yue Opera, Kunqu Opera, and traditional folk music,” said Ruan Jing, director of the Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Center. Since last September, the concert series has featured various artistic teams performing in popular locations across Hangzhou, enriching the cultural landscape for the public.

Among the delighted crowd was Yu Yue, a visitor from Anhui, who expressed her amazement: “It’s absolutely stunning! I can really feel the rich cultural heritage and impressive technological advancements of this city.” As she shared videos of the event on social media, she remarked, “What surprised me even more is that the benches by West Lake have wireless charging capabilities. These lovely ‘energy stations’ are both beautiful and practical, greatly enhancing our travel experience. This place is getting more ‘tech-savvy’ every day!”
