On the evening of September 8, the Hawaiian Vietnamese-Chinese Association hosted a vibrant Mid-Autumn celebration at the Regal Seafood Restaurant. The event boasted an impressive lineup of guests, including Lin Huicheng, the Director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Honolulu, and his wife, as well as prominent leaders from various overseas Chinese organizations. Notably, Director Lin took to the stage to entertain the audience with a heartfelt song, adding a personal touch to the festivities.
The celebration kicked off at 6:30 PM, with emcees Chen Lingxuan and Susan guiding the evening’s events. President Chen Qibang warmly welcomed distinguished guests, including Director Lin and other leaders, expressing appreciation for their ongoing support of the association. Prime Minister Shen Wenzhou also took the opportunity to thank attendees and announced that the 23rd election for new officers would be held on November 16. He encouraged members interested in running to register by November 1, with the newly elected officers slated to start their terms on January 1, 2025. Shen also highlighted the upcoming Double Tenth Day parade on October 6, urging everyone to participate.
Director Lin addressed the crowd on behalf of the Republic of China government and the Overseas Community Affairs Council, extending warm festive greetings. He announced a National Day reception scheduled for October 8 at 6 PM in the Hibiscus Ballroom of the Ala Moana Hotel. Echoing Shen’s invitation to get involved in the Double Tenth Day celebrations, Lin called on all who value democracy and freedom to join the festivities. To the delight of the attendees, he performed “May You Live a Long Life,” a song that resonated well with the occasion.
As the night progressed, the entertainment segment began with a performance from Association Board Member Li Mingxi, who beautifully sang “The Moon Represents My Heart.” This was followed by a series of talented guests showcasing their vocal prowess on stage. The Hawaii Little Jasmine Rainbow Dance Center also delivered a captivating performance, creating a festive atmosphere where guests enjoyed delectable cuisine while being entertained, truly embodying the spirit of the celebration.
After the dinner service, Vice President Shen Daipeifang expressed her heartfelt thanks to those in attendance and promised an even more exciting event in the coming year. The much-anticipated lottery drew enthusiastic participation, with prizes such as TVs, speakers, household appliances, cash, gift certificates, and monetary gifts from community leaders awarded to lucky guests. The evening wrapped up around 9:30 PM, with attendees leaving in high spirits under the enchanting moonlight.
The event attracted a total of 20 tables filled with guests, including not only those mentioned but also representatives like Yang Taiying, advisor to the Overseas Community Affairs Council, and Xie Xuehua, President of the Hawaii Branch of the World Chinese Women Entrepreneurs Association. Over 200 attendees from various organizations, including the Chinese Cultural Service Center, the Taiwanese Association, and the North American Taiwanese Women’s Association, contributed to the vibrant atmosphere.
