Yiwu, a bustling city in Zhejiang province, has been in the spotlight this October for some notable achievements. According to local railway police, Yiwu Railway Station has been recognized as the busiest county-level train station in the province. During the recent National Day holiday, the station recorded an impressive average of 37,200 passengers daily, marking a remarkable 28.4% increase compared to the previous year. On its peak day, the station managed to accommodate a staggering 43,300 travelers.
In light of this significant increase in passenger traffic, the Yiwu railway police have rolled out a comprehensive security strategy to ensure safe and efficient railway operations during this hectic period. They meticulously crafted a security plan in advance of the holiday, working in close collaboration with railway passenger departments to proactively identify and mitigate potential risks. This foresight included anticipating different emergency scenarios and augmenting security patrols in key areas during peak travel times.
The police have also established rigorous safety protocols covering security checks, station area control, and the management of high-risk targets. Combatting emerging forms of crime, particularly telecommunications fraud and serious criminal offenses, has been a top priority, all aimed at preserving a secure environment for all travelers.
Additionally, it’s important to highlight that Yiwu Railway Station is currently undergoing a major renovation. Upon completion, these upgrades will enhance connectivity with several major railways, including the Hangzhou-Changsha High-Speed Railway and the Shanghai-Kunming Railway. Once transformed, the station will feature 11 platforms and 27 tracks, positioning it as the largest high-speed railway station in a county-level city nationwide and the second largest station in Zhejiang province, following Hangzhou East Station.
