On October 15, the Xi’an Yan Ta District’s joint investigation task force reported concerning incidents at Shicheng Pinge Kindergarten where multiple children exhibited symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea on October 11. In response, the district promptly activated its emergency response protocol, sending a dedicated team consisting of representatives from the Education Bureau, Health Bureau, and Market Regulation Bureau to the scene for immediate action and investigation.
As of October 15, it has been confirmed that 48 children have contracted norovirus. Fortunately, their symptoms are currently stable, with no severe cases or new infections reported. Laboratory tests of food samples have ruled out food poisoning based on the clinical presentations observed.
The investigation revealed issues related to internal management and inadequate operational qualifications at the affected kindergarten. Consequently, the task force has taken measures to temporarily close the facility for thorough rectification, ensuring the health and treatment of affected children. Comprehensive health check-ups for all students at the kindergarten are underway, and arrangements are being made for transferring students to other schools as requested by some parents. The Market Regulation Bureau is launching an investigation into irregularities during the operation of the school’s cafeteria. Additionally, health authorities are advising the kindergarten on thorough disinfection practices. There will also be a district-wide initiative aimed at preventing seasonal infectious diseases and addressing food safety issues in all primary and secondary schools as well as kindergartens. In response to the shortcomings in operational qualifications, an investigative team has been established by the district’s disciplinary commission to address these concerns.
