A man in Japan successively attacked the headquarters of the Liberal Democratic Party and the Prime Minister’s residence. Shigeru Ishiba responded.

Recently, a man in Japan was involved in a series of attacks on the headquarters of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and the Prime Minister’s residence. In response to this alarming situation, Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, while delivering a speech in Kagoshima Prefecture, addressed the incidents.

On the morning of October 19, a man identified as Atsunobu Usuda from Saitama Prefecture used a device similar to a high-pressure cleaner to spray a liquid at riot police stationed outside the LDP headquarters. He also threw what appeared to be Molotov cocktails at the building, resulting in minor injuries to three police officers present at the scene.

Following this, Usuda breached the security barrier in front of the Prime Minister’s residence and hurled several objects resembling smoke bombs at the police, leading to his immediate arrest. Reports indicate that authorities discovered approximately 20 plastic barrels in his vehicle, most of which contained gasoline. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s Public Security Bureau suspects that this was a premeditated act and is currently investigating the motives and background behind it.

As Japan engages in campaigning for the upcoming House of Representatives elections, Prime Minister Ishiba asserted during his street speech that “democracy must never succumb to violence.” He reinforced his commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the citizens.
