On October 15, in Brussels, the Chinese Mission to the European Union responded to the EU’s statement regarding Taiwan. They underscored that the concept of “Taiwan independence” and peace in the Taiwan Strait are fundamentally incompatible. The spokesperson emphasized that if the EU genuinely cares about maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, it should firmly oppose “Taiwan independence.”
When asked about the EU External Action Service spokesperson’s recent statement regarding China’s military exercises around Taiwan, the representative from the Chinese Mission articulated that these exercises serve as a resolute counteraction against the provocative actions of “Taiwan independence” advocates. They reaffirmed that Taiwan is an integral part of China, and conducting military drills in the waters surrounding Taiwan is entirely justified. The spokesperson further insisted that the Taiwan issue is a matter of China’s internal affairs and should not be subject to any external interference.
The spokesperson concluded by reiterating that “Taiwan independence” and peace in the Taiwan Strait cannot coexist. If the EU is truly committed to the stability of the region, it must clearly reject “Taiwan independence” and avoid sending any misguided signals to the separatist forces.
