North Korea’s Foreign Minister- The United States should bear responsibility for the South Korean drone infiltration into Pyongyang

According to a report by KCNA, North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui spoke out on October 19, asserting that the United States must “take the necessary responsibility” for the recent incursion of South Korean drones into Pyongyang.

In her statement titled “Countries Participating in Illegal Sanctions Against North Korea Will Pay the Price,” Choe criticized the U.S. and its allies for violating fundamental international law principles centered around sovereignty and non-interference in domestic affairs. She argued that their actions aim to restore a framework of sanctions against North Korea that has persisted over the past decade. Notably, she pointed out that the expert group overseeing UN sanctions resolutions has been dissolved, replaced by what she termed an “illegal” multinational sanctions monitoring group, which undermines the UN Charter.

Choe expressed grave concern and disappointment over the U.S.’s pursuit of hegemonic interests and its attempts to unilaterally alter the international order. She deemed this behavior a challenge to international justice and a blatant violation of sovereignty, strongly condemning and opposing these actions.

Additionally, she referenced the drone incident involving South Korea, reiterating that the U.S. would bear its share of responsibility for it.

In related news from Yonhap, the UN Security Council’s North Korea sanctions committee’s expert group concluded its term and was disbanded on April 30. To address the shortfall in the sanctions oversight mechanism, the South Korean Foreign Ministry recently announced that the U.S., South Korea, and nine other countries have formed a “multinational sanctions monitoring group” outside of the UN framework.
