On October 13, a significant cultural event titled “The Ancestor Mountains of the Qinling: The Poetic Chang’an” took place in Xi’an, drawing around 500 participants, including environmentalists, forestry experts, and representatives from local communities.
Organized by the Xi’an Municipal Committee and the local government, the event aims to enhance the ecological and cultural preservation of the northern foot of the Qinling Mountains, particularly the section that runs through Xi’an. It focuses on promoting Qinling culture and fostering innovative development of its cultural values.
The cultural program was divided into three chapters: “Chinese Ancestral Mountains: Eternal Through the Ages,” “Central Water Tower: Benefiting All Lands,” and “Cultural Symbol: A Great Journey Ahead.” The performances included a diverse array of artistic expressions such as dance, poetry recitation, skits, singing, and traditional Qin opera, all cohesively demonstrating the unique cultural characteristics of the Qinling region.
Xi’an has enacted a series of policies and regulations aimed at protecting the Qinling ecological environment, including ecological protection legislation, planning guidelines, and a “positive-negative list”. The city’s “Smart Qinling” initiative integrates various protective measures, making them more precise and intelligent. The regulatory framework for Qinling conservation is increasingly robust, with mechanisms being gradually established to ensure legal compliance.
In addition, Xi’an has focused on enhancing the quality of agritourism and homestays, enforcing stringent water resource protections, and advancing integrated conservation and restoration efforts across the landscape. Notably, in the realm of “smart mountain management,” a comprehensive monitoring platform has been developed that connects real-time alerts with coordinated command and control, placing Xi’an at the forefront of such initiatives in the province and nationwide.
Furthermore, Xi’an actively embraces the “two mountains” concept, establishing a specialized team dedicated to exploring the ecological and cultural values of the northern Qinling. This effort includes promoting cultural brands such as the Hu County Art Festival, Chang’an storytelling, and Zhouzhi’s “Qinling, Qin People, Qin Voice,” all contributing to Xi’an’s aspiration to become a global hub of Chinese civilization.
Looking ahead, Xi’an plans to fully implement new development concepts, safeguard its rich biodiversity and water resources, and preserve the region’s vibrant cultural heritage. The city is committed to exploring new paths for green development and accelerating the transition to sustainable growth, ensuring that the beauty of the Qinling Mountains remains ever-present, with lush landscapes and clear waters as hallmarks of Xi’an’s high-quality development.
