Babatunde Aléshé- ‘Dipsy from the Teletubbies got me into comedy’

**Interview with Babatunde Aléshé: The Comedy Scene’s Rising Star**

**Liam Pape:** Who’s your comedy hero?
**Babatunde Aléshé:** It’s got to be Eddie Murphy. How could it not be? He’s the greatest of all time.

**Liam Pape:** Do you have any preshow rituals?
**Babatunde Aléshé:** Honestly, the only ritual I really have is to be left alone. Just let me think, stop talking. But I guess that’s a bit of a lie! I do like to jump up and down before going on stage. And for some reason, I blow raspberries for about 20 minutes. It really helps calm me down and gets the butterflies out of my stomach.

**Liam Pape:** How did you get started in comedy?
**Babatunde Aléshé:** I met standup comedian Kojo Anim when I was 17. I was determined to become a comedian, so I got his number. He also connected me with John Simmit, who played Dipsy in the Teletubbies. John gave me my first gig in Croydon.

**Liam Pape:** What’s been one of your all-time favorite gigs?
**Babatunde Aléshé:** Definitely last year in Salford during my Babahood tour. That crowd was amazing—big shoutout to Salford!

**Liam Pape:** What inspired your upcoming tour show, High Expectations?
**Babatunde Aléshé:** After last year, touring with Babahood and achieving some television success, I felt like everyone has high expectations of me now. Not just fans, but friends, family, and especially my wife and kids. As a Christian, I also feel the pressure to act right in the eyes of God. So, my life felt like it was filled with expectations from all angles, which is why I named the tour High Expectations.

**Liam Pape:** What are you most excited about right now?
**Babatunde Aléshé:** I really love spending time with my family. I know it sounds cheesy, but it’s true! I enjoy exploring new places and trying out new foods. Plus, my wife and I have started going on date nights again, which is really exciting!

**Liam Pape:** Who did you look up to when you were starting out?
**Babatunde Aléshé:** Kojo was my go-to. He helped me get gigs and taught me how to navigate the comedy scene in London.

**Liam Pape:** Can you recall a gig so bad that it’s now funny?
**Babatunde Aléshé:** Oh, my second gig at Z Bar in Brixton comes to mind. I was terrible—so bad that a woman in the front row literally sucked her teeth! That was the loudest response I got that night. To top it off, my date wouldn’t even look at me after I came off stage. It was a pretty rough night!

**Liam Pape:** Any pet peeves in the comedy world?
**Babatunde Aléshé:** Yeah, arriving late. I absolutely hate it. I’m very strict with my schedule and plan my travel meticulously. Being late is seriously my biggest fear.

**Liam Pape:** Who’s your non-comedy hero and why?
**Babatunde Aléshé:** My mum is my everything. She’s supported me throughout my entire career without asking for anything in return. That’s why I try to give her everything.

**Liam Pape:** Thanks for your time, Babatunde.
**Babatunde Aléshé:** Thank you! I’m excited for my upcoming tour, High Expectations, which runs from September 10 to November 30, 2025.
