G20 Business Summit focuses on global trading system reform and sustainable development

On October 25, the 2024 B20 Summit, held in São Paulo, Brazil, concluded with the release of a policy recommendation report that addresses critical topics such as global trade system reform and sustainable development.

Nearly a thousand representatives from the business sector participated in discussions during the event, providing insights for the B20 report. The recommendations included two fundamental principles related to digital inclusivity and cybersecurity, along with seven proposals aimed at enhancing international trade efficiency through digitization.

In his closing remarks, Brazilian Vice President and Minister of Development, Industry, and Trade, Geraldo Alckmin, emphasized that the recommendations from the B20 align closely with the priorities of the G20. “The B20 and G20 share a common vision: to reform the global trade system, meet the challenges of the 21st century, and create a more interconnected, sustainable, and inclusive world,” he stated.

Alckmin further noted that the suggestions from the B20 not only reflect the interests of the business community but also address the challenges they face, including the reform of the global trade system, investments in green infrastructure, technological innovation, and the promotion of gender equality. As this year’s G20 presidency holder, Brazil plays a crucial role in fostering global cooperation in these areas.

B20 Chair Dan Iospe added that under the theme “Driving Inclusive Growth for a Sustainable Future,” the B20 is committed to mobilizing the international business community to present viable recommendations to the G20.

The B20 serves as a vital platform for the business sectors of various nations to engage in global economic governance, producing policy recommendation reports for G20 leaders annually. The upcoming G20 Leaders’ Summit is set to take place in November in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
