Soludo- No Matter Where Perpetrators of Sunday’s Killings Hide, We Will Find Them

In a recent interview, Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, expressed his commitment to bringing the perpetrators of the tragic killings in Nibo community to justice. The incident, which occurred last Sunday, claimed the lives of approximately 12 individuals at the hands of unknown gunmen.

During a visit to Nibo to assess the situation firsthand, Police Commissioner Nnaghe Itam raised concerns about the impact of the expedited burials conducted by the victims’ families. He lamented that these hasty actions may have impeded the investigation into the tragic events. “The quick burial of the deceased is troubling,” Itam stated. “It might have hindered us from uncovering crucial evidence that could lead us to the identities of those responsible.”

Meanwhile, Senator Victor Umeh, who represents the Anambra Central Senatorial District, voiced his criticism of Governor Soludo’s handling of security in the state, asserting that Anambra has become increasingly unsafe under his leadership. Umeh noted that initial reports suggested as many as 16 casualties from the attack, which occurred during the new yam festival, and he expressed deep sorrow over the violence. “It is with shock and pain that I condemn the shooting in Nibo,” Umeh remarked. He emphasized the urgent need for the government to take concerted action against the escalating violence in the state.

The attack reportedly involved gunmen, suspected to be cultists, who opened fire on several beer parlors, resulting in numerous fatalities and injuries, including a six-year-old girl. Local security director Wadada described the scene, detailing how the assailants arrived in vehicles without license plates and passed by police checkpoints before unleashing chaos.

One survivor, Ichie Oku, who works for the Anambra State Ministry of Information, expressed gratitude for his life amidst the horror. “I want to thank God for sparing me,” he said. “It’s a miracle that I’m still here.”

As the community mourns, both the governor and police commissioner reiterated their commitment to addressing the scourge of violence. Soludo assured the public that law enforcement will take action against those responsible, stating, “No matter where the perpetrators hide, they will be brought to justice.”

The ongoing investigation is being closely monitored, with police authorities emphasizing their determination to resolve the case and restore safety to the region.
