Costco has recently issued a recall for two food products over concerns about potential Listeria contamination. In the past two weeks, the retail giant has recalled multiple items sourced from various suppliers, primarily focused on meat products. On October 17, Costco announced two new recalls: the Readywise 110 Serving Emergency Protein Bucket and Red’s Southwestern Grilled Chicken Mini Burritos.
According to an announcement from Readywise, the recall was initiated due to the potential contamination of chicken products supplied by their vendor. The Salt Lake City-based company urged customers to immediately stop consuming the product and return it to Costco for a full refund. Red’s company confirmed that only their Southwestern Grilled Chicken Mini Burritos (item number 1850156) were affected. They emphasized that this recall was a precautionary measure and advised customers not to eat the product, reminding them to return it to Costco for a full refund.
Additionally, BrucePac, a major meat processing company in the U.S., recently announced a recall of nearly 9,986,245 pounds of ready-to-eat beef and chicken products to prevent potential Listeria contamination. The USDA issued its first recall notice for BrucePac on October 9 and later followed up with a comprehensive 343-page document detailing all affected products, which included hundreds of items that could contain contaminated meat.
The Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) has noted that Listeria infections pose a severe risk, particularly to older adults, pregnant women, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of infection may include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and seizures, often accompanied by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal discomfort.
